The Private Sector Development & Projects Competence Centre is one subset under the Delegation of German Industry and Commerce in Ghana which supports businesses, associations and connects industry to government through its network, resources, and standard service of the Delegation such as sector analysis, market studies and reports, B2B meetings, due diligence and assessment of business partners and many more.
Aside these standard services which the department delivers with timeliness and professionalism the department can boast of some outstanding projects that have had great benefit to businesses within the private sector.
In July 2020, when businesses were suffering the effects of COVID-19, the Private Sector Department under the programme, Special Initiative of Training and Jobs Creation by the Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) and implemented among others GIZ supported businesses through research such as “Covid 19 response” which studied how covid had affected businesses and how they could survive the pandemics. Under this initiative, a number of businesses have also been supported through consultation, trainings, and research to help grow their business and create jobs within the Ghanaian community.
The department has also led the development of two significant platforms that support firms obtain market data and has set a stage for business-to-business matchmaking namely the Intra-African desk and GoDigital AHK virtual platforms respectively. The Intra-African Desk was developed for the dissemination and interaction of business-related information between Ghana, Tunisia, Nigeria, Morocco, and Senegal and for easily accessible market information within these countries. Spearheaded by the Delegation of German Industry and Commerce in Ghana and Southern African-German Chamber of Commerce and Industry, the GoDigital AHK matchmaking platform brings companies from Ghana, Southern Africa, German and other European companies in direct contact to open the possibilities of discovering new trade partners.
Among its several services, the Private Sector Department has supported businesses in Ghana and Germany through organizing events such as The West Africa Agrofood trade fair and conference, the 1st Healthcare Summit and Trade Fair Ghana-Germany 2021, and Green and Fair 2022 to mention a few.
